Removal and replacement of brick

Bricks can and do, deteriorate over time. Here in Colorado, they are exposed to many different elements – cold, heat, rain, sleet, snow, and ice. These changes can lead to brick deterioration, the most common being “spalling” brick where the fronts of the brick can crumble and become pitted. Sometimes, the bricks get so worn they just fall out. We can remove the deteriorated brick and replace it with new brick to match (or closely match) your existing brick chimney.

Crown Repairs

Crown repairs

We, at CrownUp Pros , refer to the exterior cement top of the chimney as the “Chimney Crown.” If it is cracked and has flaws, it’s vital that you repair it before it leads to further damage of the crown itself or the entire chimney. When the damage is minor, we recommend applying a sealant, thereby saving the entire cement top and only addressing the minor cracks. Sometimes, a more extensive repair is needed and that’s when our masons come out and construct a new, beautiful overhanging crown which will not only look good, but will add protection to the rest of the chimney.

Repair of leaky chimneys

There are a lot of reasons your chimney might be leaking. We’ll inspect your fireplace to determine where your leak is coming from and take care of the problem. Whether your chimney needs a chimney cap, repair, or new flashing, we can help!

Re-pointing

Re-pointing goes by many names — tuckpointing, pointing, spot pointing, etc. — but no matter the name, it is essentially the process of replacing damaged mortar joints in masonry structures to add strength and prevent water from getting in. While it may seem like a minor repair, the benefits can be huge – especially when you consider the role mortar joints play in the structural integrity, appearance, and water-resistance of a structure!

Chimney Caps Help Prevent:

– Rain And Snow Build-Up (preventing water damage)

– Birds And Animal Intrusion

– Certain Downdrafts

– Debris Accumulation

Firebox cleaning

Firebox Repair & Rebuild

The firebox is subject to deterioration over time mainly from water damage! If water has seeped into your firebox due to a faulty chimney cap or broken chimney crown, this will create gaps or holes in the firebox that will allow dangerous gasses and even hot embers to escape out of the firebox. This could potentially cause a fire or carbon monoxide poisoning. During your annual inspection, our chimney sweep techs will inspect the firebox along with the rest of the chimney. They are on the lookout for cracks, degradation, crumbling mortar, or split bricks. If any vulnerabilities are spotted, our crew will make the recommendations for necessary repairs or rebuilding.

Smoke Chamber Resurface

What is a smoke chamber?

A smoke chamber is the area above the fireplace firebox (where you see the fire) and below the flue (in most cases the flue is constructed of terracotta tiles), used to allow smoke to mix and rise into the flue.
The inner surfaces of the smoke chamber shall be parge coated smooth.

Benefits of parge smoke chamber:
Improves safety of the chimney
Increases structural integrity of the smoke chamber area
improves draft and performance of the fireplace, thus lowering creosote buildup within the chimney system
Returns smoke chamber to code compliant
Makes it much easier to service the chimney properly

FAQ Chimney Repair

How do I know if my chimney needs repairs?

Signs that your chimney requires repairs can include:

  • Crumbling or damaged mortar
  • White staining on the chimney exterior (efflorescence)
  • Water leaks around the chimney or fireplace
  • Rust on the firebox or damper
  • A noticeable draft coming down the chimney
  • Unusual or loud sounds from the chimney area

While minor repairs might seem manageable, professional chimney companies should handle most chimney repairs. Professionals can accurately diagnose and correct issues, ensuring repairs meet safety regulations and standards.

It’s recommended to have your chimney professionally inspected at least once a year. Regular inspections can catch issues early, often saving you money and preventing potentially dangerous situations like chimney fires or carbon monoxide leaks.

Delaying needed repairs can lead to several risks, including the possibility of a chimney fire, water damage extending to other parts of your home, higher repair costs down the line, and exposure to toxic gases.

The duration of chimney repair can vary greatly based on the nature of the issue. Simple repairs might be completed in a few hours, while more complex issues requiring structural work can take several days.

Coverage for chimney repairs under your home insurance will depend on your specific policy and the cause of the damage. It’s essential to contact your insurance company to understand what is included in your coverage.

A chimney sweep primarily involves cleaning the chimney and providing a basic inspection, whereas chimney repair service focuses on fixing structural issues, leaks, or other damages related to the chimney.
